What is Impasto Photography?

A hybrid of photography and painting, we take gorgeous photos of your loved ones where their unique personalities shine through, and then transform these into great works of art.

From Digital to Tangible.

Once you've selected the perfect image from your photoshoot, our skilled digital painter takes over, expertly applying brushstrokes and markings to create a completely bespoke and unique painting.

Once you've given us the green light to bring your painting to life, we transform the digital artwork into a tangible masterpiece by printing it onto high-quality canvas. But that's not all - we then add layers of texture and real paint to give your painting a unique, tactile feel that will take your breath away.

Our final artwork is truly a blend of the best of both worlds. The end result is an artwork that is indistinguishable from a traditionally painted portrait, yet captures the essence and spontaneity of your loved one through the lens of photography.

Why blend photography and painting?

The painted portraits of art history may leave you yearning for more emotion, as many of the greatest masterpieces only feature neutral expressions. Even Leonardo da Vinci's renowned Mona Lisa only managed to evoke a subtle half-smile.

Capturing a genuine smile in a painting has always been a challenge. Models couldn't hold a genuine smile for long periods of time during painting sessions in the past, and a similar challenge persists today- even in the age of photography. While toothy grins may look charming and spontaneous in photos, they often appear overworked and fake in paintings.

The art of capturing true likeness lies in the nuances of facial expressions, a feat only achievable through photography. As a painter, I've always strived to maintain the balance between capturing the exact likeness and retaining the lively strokes of a painting. It's a delicate process that requires a lot of effort to make it appear effortless. Even a loose paint stroke slightly off can throw off the likeness, which is why precision is key.

Through the power of digital technology, we no longer have to compromise between capturing an exact likeness of the subject and maintaining the liveliness of the strokes in a painting. With the ability to manipulate and guide strokes on the screen, and the freedom to undo and refine, we can achieve the perfect balance of artistic expression and photographic accuracy.

In a world where time is precious, our digital process allows us to create art museum quality, custom painted portraits in a matter of days instead of weeks or months. This makes it accessible for families to have their very own masterpiece without sacrificing quality.

A universal love language

The idea of love languages has been widely popularized, with words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch all playing a role in how we express and receive love. But if two people speak different love languages, their expressions of love can get lost in translation, leading to misunderstandings and confusion.

For instance, words of affirmation can seem empty, gifts can be viewed as an admission of guilt, and quality time can feel smothering.

A personalized painting of your loved ones is the ultimate expression of love and appreciation. Unlike other forms of communication, it's a universal language that can never be misinterpreted. With a custom painting, you're able to say "I love you" and "You are important to me" in a way that transcends any cultural or personal differences.

When we see Jack create a work of art of Rose in the film the Titanic, we immediately think, wow, he’s so into her!

Personalized paintings of those we hold dear have an almost magical ability to convey our love and affection in a way that words alone simply cannot match. With every brushstroke, we pour our heart and soul onto the canvas, capturing the essence and spirit of the person we cherish most.

Creating personalized portraits is not just about capturing a likeness on canvas or paper, it's about the emotional impact it has on the people who receive it. It's about the joy and happiness that a child feels when they see their portrait on the wall and realize how much their parents love and value them. It's about the warmth and appreciation that grandparents feel when they receive a gift that makes them feel involved and cared about every time they look at it. At the end of the day, knowing that our work can strengthen family bonds and bring happiness to people's lives is what makes it all worthwhile.
